Project Description
Opportunity Link's Wealthy Futures project, developed in partnership with several Northcentral Montana community organizations, is developed to improve financial literacy and financial decision-making by pulling together existing resources on financial education, financial and credit coaching, and income tax preparation services and making them more accessible for Northcentral Montana residents. Wealthy Futures improves accessibility of asset and wealth creation programs while building capacity of communities to continue to provide such services for their residents. This AmeriCorps*VISTA member will be based out of Browning, Montana with the Blackfeet Community Development Corporation on the Blackfeet Indian Reservation.
Position Summary
The AmeriCorps*VISTA member is responsible for building relationships with a variety of community service organizations, local and tribal governments, and academic institutions. The VISTA member will be working directly with Blackfeet Community Development Corporation (BCDC) and Opportunity Link in the coordination of Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA), financial education and other asset and wealth creation programs in Glacier County. The VISTA member will be supervised directly by BCDC’s financial education coordinator and report quarterly to Opportunity Link’s project coordinator.
Duties & Responsibilities
The AmeriCorps*VISTA member will be responsible for the following tasks:
• Assist in the coordination of Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Sites (VITA) and the I-CAN E-Filing system for VITA sites in Glacier County;
• Assist in the organization and promotion of VITA volunteer training in coordination with Opportunity Link and BCDC;
• Assist community partners in the recruitment of volunteer tax preparers and other volunteers for VITA from the community;
• Assist community partners in the promotion of VITA services in the community;
• Assist BCDC and Opportunity Link in securing partnerships for the next VITA tax season;
• Establish partnerships and create opportunities to promote and increase access to financial education programs for residents in the community.
